Sophie Turner Ready to Crush Jolie’s Lara Croft in Brutal New Tomb Raider Reboot

Sophie Turner is stepping into the boots of one of cinema’s most iconic action heroines as she prepares to play Lara Croft in an upcoming streaming adaptation of Tomb Raider. The Game of Thrones star is reportedly undergoing intense physical training and combat preparation to not only embody the character but to elevate the performance beyond the original portrayal by Angelina Jolie in the 2001 film.

According to Life & Style, sources close to Turner say she’s fully embracing the challenge. “Sophie is going to town with the training for this movie,” an insider revealed. “She’s already extremely experienced with screen combat, stunts, and extreme costumes and special effects, thanks to her years in the Game of Thrones and X-Men universes.”

The source added that Turner is pushing herself even further for this role, sharpening her skills and getting into peak physical condition to bring a fresh intensity to the beloved character.

The new series, titled Lara Croft: Tomb Raider, is being championed by Fleabag creator Phoebe Waller-Bridge, who is both producing and writing the project. Known for her sharp storytelling and wit, Waller-Bridge’s involvement promises a fresh, layered take on the legendary adventurer.

The original Tomb Raider film became a box office hit and earned praise for its high-octane action and groundbreaking female lead. Angelina Jolie, who originally brought Lara Croft to life, once described filming the movie as “a great adventure.”

In a notable twist, Turner will be the first British actress to portray Lara Croft in a live-action adaptation—a fact that isn’t lost on her. “That’s a big deal,” the insider said. “And Sophie knows that gives her a special edge compared to Angelina and Alicia [Vikander].”

With a powerful team behind the scenes and Turner at the forefront, this new Tomb Raider series is shaping up to be a bold and gritty reinvention of the classic franchise.
